I just got a lip piercing, and I have a few questions.?

Okay, first of all please don't call me stupid of idiotic for piercing my lips. I used gloves, and a hollow sterile needle. After I pierced my lips, I couldn't see to get the ring in. Right now, the jewelry is inside the hole, but it doesn't come outside.. As if I pierced it half way. But the problem is, when I pierced it, I just put the needle through to the point where it was sticking out just a bit. And then I waited about 5 minutes before putting the ring in..But it went through the inside, but it doesn't come out the outside. Please help! How can I make the hole on the outside open, without using a needle, so it won't hurt? I asked the ladies at where I bought my lips rings, and they said I could use a 14 gauge for your ear, the little stretchers, and push it through the inside of my mouth, so the skin would reopen.. But I'm wondering if that's safe? PLEASE help!
