What power amp is required for 2 x 8ohm 300w PA Speakers?

dont quite understand the impedance stuff. i know 2 8 ohm speakers in parallel equal 4 ohm, and 2 in series is 16 ohm ... but still dont quite get it? If I get a PA amp rated 4-16 ohms would that be okay?
